On June 7 a team went in for the last Wood River cleanup (hopefully) this season. They were Jerry Dorff, Julie Chell, Bob Hartshorn, Sharon Johnson and Rod Kleiss. Please let me know if I missed anyone. The river should now be navigable for canoes and kayaks from Memory Lake to the St Croix River. Anyone traveling the river who runs into a log jam or a treacherous spot, please let us know, as well as you can, where that spot is. You can contact Jerry at Wild River Outfitters.
Between Memory Lake and the Highway 70 bridge, the Wood River passes through the Grantsburg Rod and Gun Club. The Club has been very accommodating letting us get in to clear trees and debris. To keep people safely in their crafts while passing through Gun Club land, the Natural Resources committee of GRO has put up signage along the waterway where it cuts through the Club land. Thank you to the Gun Club for helping us make this project a success.
Thank you to all the volunteers and a big thank you to Jerry Dorff of Wood River Outfitters for letting us use canoes and kayaks well as transporting them, and participating in all the clean up efforts.
