Meeting called by: Kristina Kelley-Johnson

Type of meeting: Town Renewal Committee Discussion

Notetaker: Kristina Kelley-Johnson

Attendees: Larry Ebersold, Cathy McCabe, Kelly Gerber, Kristina Kelley-Johnson, Dale Bistram, Chris Bartlett, Nicki Peterson

Minutes

Agenda Item: CDBG Village Grant and how GRO can help

Discussion: Review of Project list (improved crosswalks, numerous sidewalk bump-outs, curb and street overlay improvements, sections of sidewalk replaced and the addition of ADA pedestrian ramps, replace the water main on Pine St, between Madison and Olson Drive, additional of garbage cans and benches).

Larry informed the committee that the kick-off will be in October and that GRO members are welcome to attend.

Dale asked if businesses will be assessed for sidewalk improvements. Chris confirmed that they will not. The cost is included in the grant and matching village funds.

Agenda Item: Fundraising for street improvements

Discussion: Consensus was that we will focus on fundraising for benches right now since people are not likely to donate funds for a garbage can and we do not yet have a design for the street banners. Kristina will work on an order form/letter.

Kristina gave the prices for the benches and plaques from Treetop Productions

  •         Benches $820 (includes S&H)
  •         8”x2” plague, includes 3 lines with 18 characters, including spaces and punctuation, on a line: $98.85
  •         10”x3” plague, includes 4 lines with 24 characters, including spaces and punctuation, on a line: $147.85

Discounts may be given for orders over $3,000 but that depends on the product. The manufacturer recommends taking group orders and contacting them once we have a quantity.

Agenda item: Campground expansion update

Discussion: Dale and Chris reported that campground committee is waiting for SEH to give the village cost estimates for the expansion project to add six campsites to the existing campground. SEH could be hired to write grants. The committee is also waiting on the DNR to give them more information on zoning regulations.

Agenda item: Update from decorating committee

Discussion: Kelly reported that several members of the decorating committee made Fun-Crows on September 16. The fun-crows will decorate the school grounds and the welcome sign. Kelly has organized a group to use the cornstalks leftover from Grantoberfest to decorate the streetlights downtown. A meat raffle at the Rendezvous raised $1250 (including funds the owner donated). The funds will be used for a holiday display at Memory Lake Park. Kelly is helping the Lions locate more businesses to participate.

Agenda item: There is a Burnett County and Visit Siren map that includes a nice map of the Grantsburg area. Nicki contacted Burnett County tourism office to find out if we are can enlarge this section of the map for a local resource.

Next meeting date is 3:30 p.m., October 17 at Grantsburg Public Library
