GRO Meeting Minutes October 10, 2018

Attended: Pam Davies, Cris Peterson, Halle Pardun, Nicki Peterson, Kelly Gerber, Larry Ebersold, Kristina Kelley-Johnson, Ben Binversie, Jerry Dorff, Cathy McCabe

Town Renewal:

  • CDBG Project review—main street improvements including sewer and water, sidewalks with bump outs, street lamps, etc. Car charging stations were mentioned as something that could be considered–signs on HWY could bring people downtown to charge their cars.
  • Kristina is drafting a letter for the village regarding bench donations with a focus on Memory Lake and Madison Ave. Will get a count on how many benches and donors for next meeting.
  • Kelly talked about GROs holiday in the park efforts, autumn decorating around downtown and wreaths for decorating downtown.

Campground Expansion:

  • Larry touched on concerns about both the existing and the proposed campgrounds being each partially on a floodplain and how to inform campers of flood watch 72 hours in advance as required by DNR.
  • Looking at adding 6 spots to the current campground Also the possibility of moving the playground nearer to picnic shelters to make more room for spots. Dale is working on new campground gathering data and filing paperwork.
  • Committee will not meet until come of the paperwork gets completed.

Grantsburg map: Consensus that we should work off other Burnett County maps used by County Tourism Board as well as looking at working with other communities to develop an up to date map.

GRO is looking at a facade recommendation plan to roll out of the CDBG grant. Nicki consulting UW Extension.

Marketing:

  • Kiosk at the edge of the golf course next to the gas station is close to being ready, finalizing panels. A second kiosk near the dam in Memory Lake Park will be scheduled to begin construction.
  • The Crex geese are on the road and the donor will be asked to get a photo taken at the next marketing meeting.

Housing:

  • Working on the housing needs survey. The committee working on the Economic Development Community Investment Fund with the county. Once they have survey results, they will work with the marketing committee to look for developers interested in building housing units.
  • This committee will meet Wed November 7.

Natural resources:

  • Working on getting aerial photos of the Wood River to create a plan for clearing the river. Kelly suggests Suzi Retzer at Grantsburg High School.
  • Trails subcommittee: Rod needs help widening and cleaning up trails in preparation for winter snow and grooming.

Future meetings may rotate between lunch hour and after work hours. Next meeting will be held November 14, 5 PM at Brickfield Brewing. Cathy will provide wild rice soup!
