Renewal Committee:

  • Village approved selection of benches and garbage cans made by the committee.
  • Kelly Gerber reported on Decorating Committee: Meat Raffle on Friday at Hummers to raise money for holiday decorations. Sunday is FunCrow building at the fair grounds 4:00 to be judged in competition at Grantoberfest. After Grantoberfest, FunCrows and cornstalks will be used to decorate lamp posts. 27 lamp posts on Pine and Main, one on Oak. 5 more powerpole type lights on Oak could also be decorated. Garden Club will clean up HWY 70 plantings and replace with straw bales and corn stalks etc. Chris from village said this is all fine but decorations need to be removed in a timely manner. Plan is to have them cleaned up in time to switch to Xmas decorations after Thanksgiving. Kelly approached Lions about the Decorating Committee helping with Holiday in the Park. They were happy to accept assistance. Goal is to get more businesses to put up displays. GRO display is in the works with a lighted arch.

  • Kristina reported that Friends of Crex Meadows met with GRO to discuss mutual needs of organizations. They are planning to get the geese painted on Pine St and on Olson Drive to direct traffic to the reserve. They would like to see GRO develop a map of the greater Grantsburg area that they can use at the interpretive center to direct tourists to locations including food and other businesses even if specific businesses are not designated on the map. The interpretive center needs volunteers to tend the desk to greet tourists etc. We will put a call out on FB for volunteers for Crex Meadows.

  • Renewal is also working on a brochure to sell bricks as a fundraiser.

  • COR fitness trail plans are being finalized and it is hoped that Rodney and Darrel can get this trail done yet this fall. Rodney expressed to Pam that he thought if the weather is dry enough they should be able to get it done in October. The trail construction should take about a week to complete. Walk-through and marking of the trail was done by Kelly, Nicki and Chris.

Natural Resources committee planning a fly over of the Wood River to photograph and locate all jams on a map. Committee is hoping to identify willing property owners who will let crews go in near to each jam and clear bank to bank. Easy access to work areas will reduce fatigue from traversing the length of the river each time a cleanup party goes out. This will help with safety on the river while working as well as help ensure the jams will not rejammed.

Rod Kleiss needs help with trail cleanup prior to snowfall if he is to groom the trails this year. 1st cleanup date is planned for Saturday, Sept 15, 1:00 PM. Meet at Rods 313 N Russell.
