Meeting Minutes
Meeting held May 15, 2018 6:30 PM at Rod and Georgianne Kleiss’
In attendance: Rod Kleiss, Georgianne Kleiss, Pam Davies, Jerry Dorff, Steve Hoffman, Julie Chell
Julie reported that west of the West River Road Bridge the river is clear except for one submerged log that caused dangerous navigation last fall. She passed over it without incident just this afternoon.
Jerry has the email from Gordy on how to request help from the the National Guard with the river cleanup. Jerry will fill out the forms and send in the request.
Two Cleanup dates were set.
- Wed, May 23 at 8:00 am. Meet at the HWY 70 bridge over the Wood River just west of the gun club. If weather is bad we will postpone one day.
- Friday June 1, at 8 am. Meet at Wild River Outfitters. We hope to be putting in at a private land owner’s property on the river.
Pam suggested clearing a path to the river adjacent to the rip-rap on the NE side of the bridge to make putting in easier for ourselves and visitors to the river.
Julie will check with Vern Chute to see if he is willing to let us pull out on May 21 at his property and put in on June 1. It is also important to identify private property where day trippers can get assistance in an emergency.
Pam will provide a map of the river with private properties identified and hopefully Google Earth or GIS shots of homes so we can clearly identify points along the river. We will try to mark way-points along the river for aids to navigation for ourselves and visitors to the river.
We would like to add more volunteers to the group. Rod suggested Roger Erickson. Rod will contact Roger.
Georgianne said daughter Vanessa may want to help on May 23 as she will be in town. Georgianne will contact Sharon Johnson about volunteering these dates.
Jerry will telephone our newest volunteers to follow up with them. He will contact Lori McNally about a possible volunteer she knows and to encourage Lori to come on cleanup dates.
Pam will email the group with dates and particulars for the cleanup.
Safe egress from the river on private property in emergencies is deemed essential. Pam and Georgianne will make a survey by road of possible properties that are suitable for egress from the river in emergencies.
Meeting ended at 8:00. Thank you to our hosts, Rod and Georgianne Kleiss (and for the pizza and libations)!
