GRO members were invited by Chris Carney of The Pink Squirrel to start their meeting by touring the new occasional store downtown Grantsburg.
Agenda item: Marketing Committee report
Kristina read an email from Marketing Committee chairperson, Ben Binversie. They are finishing up the trail kiosk project. The contractor recently dug the holes to install the kiosk at Memory Lake Park. A press release about the donation of the Crex geese painted on the streets is being submitted to the local papers.
Agenda item: Housing Committee report
Kristina read an email from Marketing Committee chairperson, Ben Binversie. Ben meet with Burnett County Administrator, Nate Ehalt regarding an application for a housing study of the Grantsburg community. The Burnett County Administration committee will review and potentially approve funding the study at December 17 at 9:30 a.m.
Larry reported that the Village and County are getting the village owned property behind the post office, along the Wood River appraised. There is an interested party in the property. They hope to build residential rental properties at the lot.
Agenda item: Renewal Committee report
Nicki and Kristina informed the group about the meeting for the Community Development Block Grant located in the Grantsburg downtown. They learned that the Village will invite property/business owners to a meeting in January or February with engineers from SEH present. Those owners can learn at the meeting how the project will affect the downtown and they can also suggest practices to minimize disruptions to their business. To coincide with CDBG grant, the committee has asked Todd Johnson of UW-Extension to create a resource list for businesses to find facade supplies; signage, awnings, etc. Todd will also create sketches of what the downtown facades could look like with a few improvements.
Fundraising for the Community Outdoor Recreation Area has started with display boards and brochures placed around town.
Agenda item: Natural Resources Committee report
Pam reported that Rod Kleiss will be flying out and taking photos of the Wood River in late November. They are hoping to discover what needs to be accomplished in order to make the river navigable by canoe and kayak. Volunteers helped Rod widening the ski trail near Memory Lake Park by cutting down small trees and brush.
